#HighFiveFriday Feature: Miriam Hornbuckle Grays

Please join me in celebrating today’s #HighFiveFriday feature: Miriam Hornbuckle Grays

Miriam is a senior cost analyst at the Defense Contract Management (a Rolls-Royce Corporation) and a member of DePauw University’s Greek Community Board.

She is an 18-year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where she has received numerous achievement and service awards and has held multiple leadership roles. Currently Miriam serves as the Central Region Newsletter and Digital Video Committee Chairman and the president of Alpha Mu Omega Chapter in Indianapolis, Indiana.

We celebrate Miriam today for her extraordinary, fearless and caring leadership. Much like our beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha Founders, Miriam is a visionary who is devoted to serving the global community and cultivating an atmosphere where leaders thrive and sisterhood flourishes.

Miriam also is a dynamic Lean leader who coaches, empowers and encourages the people she leads. She embraces scientific thinking and motivates others to do the same by discovering creative ways to operate more efficiently, which helps our chapter serve in a greater capacity.

During the pandemic, members of AKA have been unable to physically gather for meetings, community service projects and sisterly relations activities. Under Miriam’s leadership, this obstacle became a great opportunity for our chapter to be innovative and take service, scholarship and sisterhood to the next level. Virtually, the members of our chapter:

  • Organized Global impact initiatives to address the health needs of people in communities with limited resources

  • Provided meals to children during school closures and throughout the year

  • Hosted an HBCU virtual college fair

  • Conducted workshops on financial literacy and empowerment

  • Engaged with the Indiana Black Lives Matter and international #RootCauseRacism movements to support justice and equity for people of color

  • Championed multiple get out to vote initiatives at the county, state and national levels

Miriam is what I call a “Sister’s Sister.” DAILY she goes above and beyond to demonstrate respect for people. Whether it's comforting a grieving member or celebrating a member’s accomplishment, she leads the way in honoring the humanity and uniqueness of others.

Miriam is simply amazing!

Every volunteer and professional organization should have a leader like Miriam Hornbuckle Grays because she TOTALLY ROCKS!

Join me in celebrating Miriam by leaving a note of kudos in the comments or by sharing this blog post.
